DIMAPUR, APRIL 21 (MExN): Nagaland State Governor, PB Acharya has welcomed the decision of the central government to ban red lights atop VIP vehicles from May 1.
A press note from the PRO to the Governor stated that the Nagaland Governor has already removed red beacons from vehicles of the Raj Bhavan. The Governor said that in a democratic country “there is no room for VIP culture and all are equal before the law and should be treated equally.”
He stated that in many places, the red beacons have “become a lightning rod for public disgust at official corruption and the VVIP culture.” “A large number of persons are using red lights on their vehicles for committing crimes in different parts of the country and they do so with impunity because the police officials are mostly scared of checking vehicles with red lights,” he lamented.
“I think it is high time, we need to get out of it”, the Governor added, while hoping that others will also take similar action.
