NPCC demands probe over airport cash haul

Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): Commenting on the latest incident, where a police constable from Nagaland who along with two other accomplices were caught and detained at Kolkata airport the NPCC Media cell stated that the case needs to be thoroughly probed and responsibility fixed for the lapses. The accused was carrying Rs. 92 lakhs in cash enroute to Bangalore on July 8, 2011.
NPCC in a press note said that since the amount involved is quite large for a mere police constable to be carrying, it just cannot be ignored or brushed aside. It also stated that in the present age of electronic/net banking, the money could have been easily encashed here in the state itself and transferred using NEFT or RTGS facility. “The very act of carrying large amount of cash while travelling without declaring its source of income is not only illegal but also deprives the state of cash liquidity which is essentially important for the overall economic growth and development of the state,” NPCC further stated.  It also called for the Home department, especially the PHQ to thoroughly probe this incident and clarify with regards to the source of money, the intended beneficiary, role of the constable and action taken if any irregularities are found since a serving police constable is involved.
