Regional consultation on electoral reform

Kohima, June 10 (MExN): The Ministry of Law & Parliamentary Affairs, New Delhi is convening a meeting on Electoral Reforms on June 12 at NEDFi House, Guwahati.
Stating that the dreams of India envisages a transparent and clean electoral system, the organizer invites consultation from stake holders and citizens interested in electoral reforms of the country to suggest remedies for the ailments which debilitate the electoral process.
Initiatives for election reforms would amongst other subjects encompasses, the following – criminalization of politics, funding of elections, conduct and better management of elections, regulation of political parties, audit and finances of political parties and review of Anti-Defection Law. These issues, according to the organizer are merely suggestive and not conclusive. The consultations are joint initiatives of the Ministry of Law & Justice and Legislative Affairs and the Election Commission of India. Dr. M. Veerapa Moily, union minister of law & justice, S.Y. Quraishi, Chief Election Commissioner and other dignitaries have confirmed their participation in this regional consultation.
The state level regional consultations would be followed by an apex consultation at the National level at New Delhi, adding that all the valuable inputs received in the regional consultations would help to prepare for working sessions at the national level consultation at New Delhi.
