Kohima | March 13 : Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, on Saturday asserted that with an ongoing peace process at the highest level to resolve the decades old Indo-Naga political problem, the formation of a regional party led- government in the state has created a desired environment for peace, while a significant message has gone out to all sections, even beyond the state boundaries.
“For a state like Nagaland, the significance of a regional party goes much deeper,” Rio told the Thanksgiving Service in commemoration of the completion of three years of DAN’s 2nd term at the State’s Banquet Hall this evening.
Rio asserted that it is only through a regional party that “our unique identity, our culture and our heritage can be best protected and preserved.”
Rio said while pursuing our goals of development and economic progress, we don’t lose sight of our political vision, which is issue based, as well as a reflection of the people’s desire.
We do not face the handicaps of national parties, which are governed by the dictates of their high command from Delhi and who at times are insensitive to local issues and regional needs. “For us, the people are the true high command” he said and assured that it will continue to uphold the identity of the Nagas.
Rio stated that the protection of the special safeguards given to the Nagas under the Inner Line Regulation and under Article 371 A of the Constitution can best be done by a regional party, which understands the feelings and sentiments of the people at the grass root level.
“Being a regional party does not mean that we are confine to the boundaries of our state alone. While we are regional in character, and at the same time we can be national and global in our outlooks,” Rio added.
