'Dimapur Deputy Commissioner (DC), Tinojongshi Chang on Friday stated that the old road over-bridge beginning from Hotel Tragopan leading towards Burma Camp in Dimapur will be closed for rehabilitation work beginning from October. Speaking to media-persons on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) office building, the DC mentioned that during this period, vehicles coming from Assam will have to take the new four-lane highway on the way to Patkai Bridge as an alternative.
Previously, during April 2023, the district administration had conducted a trial run of traffic diversion, undertaken by the Dimapur police to explore viable traffic routes when rehabilitation works begin for the old railway road over-bridge. The bridge in question has seen visible concrete erosion owing to decades of usage and disrepair. Considering the task at hand of arranging alternate routes during this period, the DC said that the administration along with police and other related departments are working on finding possible measures to mitigate traffic congestion.
