Rejoinder to the article “Boundary between the Nagas and Assamese”

The article “Boundary between the Nagas and Assamese” written by Shri. T.L Angami which appeared in various local newspapers is worth to be appreciated as it carries the fact of the traditional land and its boundaries of Nagas particularly in the Tenyimis area. As clearly stated, the Government of India is well versed with those historical traditional boundaries of Naga, and while reiterating the article, it is solely based on the fact that the historic 9th Points Agreement and 16th Points Agreement were signed in order to return the land of Nagas which is still kept pending.

The Nagas therefore, tolerantly waited till dated for the GOI to implement the agreement so as to maintain peaceful co-existence among different community, however, failure on the part of GOI to implement the agreement have invited numerous confrontation and even resulting to clashes which the GOI should fully held responsible for all the incident and pay compensation as and where necessary.

In addition, the Nagas should not be treated as ‘encroachers’ by any governing authority as we have every right to occupied the traditional land demarcated under the historic agreement with GOI.

Further the formation of so called ‘United Naga Tribe Association’ also should not thwart the traditional historical boundaries and its fact. Therefore, as advised by the former writer, the Tenyimis traditional land boundary is far beyond the so-called claimed by the UNTA, and the same case is still pending in the Supreme Court of India awaiting for the final verdict. Therefore, it is advised that the so-called UNTA not to misled our people and ignite the historical fact of our Tenyimis traditional land which is conquered by our forefathers through bloodshed.

Hence, as brothers and sisters through Naga blood, it is further suggested that, the owner be consulted before any eventuality took place to discard our Naga brotherhood.

The Chakhro Angami Kuda Youth Organization (CAKYO) is saddened to see the news item published in various local dailies on 3rd April 2014 under the caption “JAC condemns border firing incident” accusing Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for thwarting his “responsibility as a Naga leader”.

Taking serious note over the accusation, the CAKYO would like to elucidate that, calling for peaceful co-existence among all community either it be within or outside with the neighbours by any leaders/person should be respected. As JAC itself had claimed that “it has no fight with the Assamese or Karbis but only trying to “share the disputed land, presently occupied by the Gurkhas and Bangladeshi (Tilla Bosti, Notun Bosti) and adjoining areas”. Whereas, the word ‘share’ maintained by the JAC is no different with ‘co-exist’ called by Chief Minster.

Therefore, Rio’s appeal to learn to co-exist with one another is nothing wrong with the presumption of the so-called JAC as stated.

Further, it is to state that the so-called dispute area is still awaiting the final verdict form the Supreme Court of India, we therefore, advice the JAC Committee or any individuals not to politicize any area under dispute just for mere publication.
