Release Konyak CSO leaders within 24-hrs: KU to NSCN-K

Mon, October 12 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) has demanded the “immediate and unconditional release” of Konyak Civil Society leaders allegedly held “hostage” by the NSCN-K (Yung Aung), and gave the latter 24 hours to comply.

The ultimatum was issued after an emergency meeting of the KU at its Mon Headquarters on October 12 in view of what it described as the “unlawful hostage” of the leaders as well as the blatant defiance of the Union’s standing resolution.

“Failure to comply shall compel the Union to undertake any course of action it deems appropriate and necessary,” asserted a statement issued by the KU.

The Union also directed all Konyak citizens, particularly the youth, to “remain vigilant and fully prepared” to respond to any subsequent directives, it added.

Further, all 13 Unit Presidents of the KU have been instructed to report to its Mon Headquarters office on October 13 to deliberate on the next course of action.

The Sunday meeting was attended by members of the Union Executive Council (UEC), the Advisory Board, and representatives from all Konyak Civil Society Organisations.
