‘Release VRS benefits or reinstate employees’

Dimapur, November 28 (MExN): The All Nagaland PWD (R, B&H) Work charge Employees Association today appealed the minister of Works & Housing and Mechanical to either release the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) benefits or reinstate the VRS-opted employees in the department before November 30.

A letter addressed to the minister by the association’s vice-president Gouvi Angami and general secretary, Kuhoshe Swu pointed out that three months are already about to lapse out of the three months period provided by the ‘court’ for release of VRS benefit to the VRS opted applicant under NPWD. The association lamented till date there is no sign of release of the benefits. It stated  that the VRS-opted employees and their families are suffering immensely as a result of this.

In this regard, the association urged the minister to initiate specific performance of the ‘court direction’ and release the VRS benefit to the applicants. The association demanded reinstating of the VRS-opted employees in the department if the government fails to do as per the ‘court direction’. The letter cautioned that if the government fails to fulfill the demand before November 30, then the association would be left with no option but to launch an agitation against the government. It  added that in case of any unwarranted incident during its agitation, the association would not be held responsible.

It may be mentioned that the minister of Works, Housing and Mechanical, Tokheho Yepthomi has resigned from the Council of Ministers in the NPF-led DAN government on November 27. The minister resigned from the government on grounds of the prevailing law and order situation, price hike in essential commodities and the superannuation issue.
