Remembering Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse

Nerhe Phezha, August 3 (MExN): HQ IGAR (North) organized a solemn ceremony on August 3 to commemorate the sacrifice of all martyrs who laid down their lives during Kargil War 1999 (OP VIJAY).
The function was organised at the Memorial of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, who laid down his life in the line of duty for the Nation for which he was awarded the Mahavir Chakra, posthumously.
Capt Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), of Nerhema village was born on July 15, 1974. He did his schooling at St Xavier School, Jalukie and graduated from Kohima Science College. He served as a teacher at Govt High School, Kohima from 1994 to 1997. He was later commissioned into the Indian Army on 12 Dec 1998. He attained martyrdom during Kargil War on 28 Jun 1999 while destroying enemy bunker and killing four enemy soldiers.
Another serving war hero from Nagaland, now Sub Imliakung Ao, MVC of Second Batallion of NAGA Regiment was also present in the function. During Kargil War, the valiant soldier volunteered to undertake a daring mission for capturing the enemy mortar position and ammunition dumn, an impossible mission successfully completed indeed. His determination, grit and raw courage in the face of enemy was exemplary in the true traditions of the Indian Army. The gallant Naga warrior single handily accomplished this without a single casualty of own troops.
Maj Gen P C Nair, YSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), all ranks, villagers and family members of Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurusue, MVC alongwith ex-servicemen and school children paid homage at his memorial at Nerhe Pheza.
The ceremony included wreath laying by IGAR (North) and Mr Neiselie Kenguruse, father of Late Capt N Kenguruse, MVC and other officials.
Neiselie Kenguruse conveyed that the whole family is very proud of their son for the sacrifice in performance of his duties.
Sub Imliakung Ao, MVC in his own words narrated the horrific instances of intense battle as seen by his own eyes.
Saluting the martyrs for their exceptional act of bravery Maj Gen P C Nair, YSM spoke of Late Captain N Kenguruse, MVC and Sub Imliakung Ao, MVC being a source of motivation and inspiration to all ranks of the Armed forces and exhorted the youth to emulate the two. The school children present were inspired to join the Sainik School at Punglwa by the General Officer.
A prize distribution ceremony followed to felicitate the young winners of painting competition named after two valiant MVC winners from Nagaland.
