Kohima, November 10 (MExN): The Nagaland government, in collaboration with the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, will commemorate ‘Remembrance Day’ at the Kohima War Cemetery on November 11.
The official programme will commence at 11:00 hours, with Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio attending as the Special Guest and Bhaarat Dave, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata, as the Honoured Guest.
According to a DIPR report, the event will be chaired by Abhijit Sinha, Home Commissioner and Principal Secretary to the Government of Nagaland.
Following the formal commemoration programme, a lunch will be hosted for the attendees. The post-lunch events will feature a band performance by the Nagaland Territorial Army, which will be followed by the flagging off of a Vintage Car Rally.
Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day due to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy, is observed in Commonwealth member states to honour armed forces members who died in the line of duty.
The day is observed on November 11 to mark the end of First World War hostilities in 1918, which formally ceased "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month."
