Renbeni- brand ambassador for NSACS RockAware

Naga Idol 2010 Renbeni Odyuo was today named as the brand ambassador for Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) RockAware 2011. This was announced at the press briefing at Dream Café. Odyuo will perform in all shows during the two month long awareness campaign on HIV and AIDS through music as part of Multi Media Campaign- Red Ribbon Super Star Campaign.
NSACS RockAware coordinator Theja Meru announced that the Rattle & Hum Music Society & XL Foundation will invite the winner of RockAware grand finale to perform at the next Handshake Concert on World Music Day next year at Bangkok, Thailand. NSACS RockAware, with a central theme “AIDS is our problem. We care!,” is a statewide band competition with the vision to use the medium of music and concerts to highlight and create awareness about HIV and AIDS and also provide a platform for the musicians of the state to showcase their talents.
Rockaware is sponsored by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO). The chief patron is Music Task Force and Legislastor’s Forum on AIDS (LFA) as chief event manager. The RockAware band competition will take place in two levels- district and state. It will be kicked off on September 10 at Kohima and the grand final will be held on October 15 at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur. Bands wanting to participate at district level competition, must submit their band names to the district event partners by September 5.
The response for bands was overwhelming, Meru said adding that the organizers are  targeting 100 bands in the event. Only the winning band from the district level competition will compete at the grand finale. The winners of the district level competition will receive a cash award of Rs. 20,000 each. The prize money for grand finale stands at Rs. 1 lakh (Ist), Rs. 60,000 (2nd), Rs. 40,000 (3rd). There will also be gifts for best categories from event partners; Best guitarist- Unitex Inc- acoustic, best vocal – a vocal Mick set from Audio Garage, best bassist- A practice Combo from Crescendo, best drummer- A cymbal set from Wishingwell Foundation and Dream Café plus additional gifts to all four winners and a home theater speaker set each from Neo Vision.
The media partners are; Nagaland, The Morung Express, Nagaland Page and Eastern Mirror. Meru invited the students and each and every individual to join the RockAware and spread the message on HIV/AIDS. “It is an honour. I am happy to be part of it,” said brand ambassador Odyuo when asked how she felt on being chosen as brand ambassador. She said that RockAware is not all about music but a message behind it, i.e HIV and AIDs and stressed on the need to collectively tackle the problem. Ayieno Kichü, Deputy Director NSACS was also present at the press conference.
