Rengma Hoho asks Rengma Mothers Association to dissociate from NMA

DIMAPUR, APRIL 13 (MExN): The Rengma Hoho (RH) has directed the Rengma Mother Association to dissociate forthwith from the Naga Mothers Association “for the interest of the whole Nagas and until such time Nagas agree to come together for a common cause, it should not unilaterally participate.” It also demanded that in future the Rengma Hoho “invariably be consulted if invited to participate in any other organizational platform, failing which the RH will take action as per customary law.”

It meanwhile welcomed the Government of Nagaland’s move to repeal the Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA) 2001.

“Inaction would have courted turmoil in every corner of the 16 Districts. The positive action taken by the Legislative Assembly has saved Nagas from further predictable bloodshed, when the death of two young lives in 2017 still remain in the minds of those who happened to witness that terrifying incident,” a press release from the Rengma Hoho stated.

It meanwhile stated that the Rengma Hoho is against the “malware content of the NMA 2001, transgressing the special provision of the Article 371A enshrined in the Constitution of India which is the lifeline between the Nagas and the Government of India.” Article 371A has been deeply rooted in the soul and mind of every Nagas and any attempt to tinker with the said provision would be akin to opening of Hornet nest, which will invite the wrath of our entire Naga Society, it stated.

Meanwhile, it acknowledged that as per the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) letter to the Governor, it is understood that, it has withdrawn its petition from the court and also has no connection with the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), India’s Largest Human Rights Organization.

“If the narrative is true, the court case should not have re-surfaced. Any organization volunteering to justify or champion a cause on behalf of the people by giving their valuable inputs should not drag every conflict to court without the consent of the aggrieved. While one may say it is the right of the aggrieved, those accused also have rights, which should not be violated,” the Rengma Hoho stated.

“Now majority of the Nagas are on equal footing as far as violation of Article 371A is concerned. In the midst of these doldrums if the NMA has consciously withdrawn and disconnected itself from organizations outside Nagaland, it is appreciated,” the Rengma Hoho said.

The Rengma Hoho meanwhile stated that it will not allow any of its constituent units to “participate or allow to be member of any other organization which works to widen the social divide and bring detriment to its own people.”
