DIMAPUR: Making history, Gwazenlo Chung, a hearing impaired person, has passed the Herculean task of clearing the NPSC exams. Bearing roll number 185, Chung is the first ever person with a physical disability who has excelled in the NCS and allied services examinations and thus securing himself a berth as Supervisor (Class-III Non-Gazetted) under the Directorate of Social Welfare Department. Confirming this, NPSC Secretary Nzimongo Ngullie disclosed that Chung is of the Rengma community. Altogether, six persons with disabilities appeared for the examinations, according to the NPSC secretary.
The result of the NCS, NPS and Allied Services, 2005 exams conducted by the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) was declared on Wednesday evening.
Altogether, nine persons have been selected for the coveted Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) post while four persons have been selected for the DSP post.
Among the list of successful candidates Phuleshe K. Yepthomi bearing roll number 631 secured the first position followed by Japheth Woch and Vekhoyi Chakhesang in second and third position respectively as EAC. Among the other six EAC, two have been selected under the backward tribe category. Under the DSP category, Masudong bearing roll number 675 secured the top position.
The selection was done on the basis of marks obtained in the Main Examination and Viva-voce and the options exercised by the candidates. The lists of successful candidates for the different posts have now being recommended to the Government of Nagaland.
Meanwhile, the selection of Chung comes just a day before Disability Day observed on December 3. This year’s observation will mark an important milestone, as it is going to commemorate 10th Anniversary of Disability Act, 1995. Accordingly, the common theme for this year’s Disability Day in India will be ‘Ten Years of the Disability Act- It’s Time for ACTION’.
As per reports carried in The Morung Express recently, the Nagaland government should reserve 5 percent of vacancies for various posts as per the schedule meant for direct recruitment in the Government of Nagaland and its public undertakings.
The government is however yet to identify posts for disabled persons in the 1st and 2nd Grade category.
