The 45th Sports Meet of Rengma Sports Association commenced today with Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Development advisor R. Khing declaring the three-day meet open at RSA Ground, Tseminyu Old Town.
More than 250 players from different Rengma villages and officials besides the RSA executives are participating in three events which include Badminton, Table Tennis and Volleyball for both men and women.
Addressing the gathering, Khing said in the past games and sports used to be played for entertainment and leisure but in the present generation it has become a very lucrative industry with sportspersons not only earning name and fame but are becoming the richest personalities.
Khing also maintained that the government jobs have reached the saturation point and therefore youths should not just chase after white-colored jobs.
In this, the senior legislator challenged that with immense scope of prospering in sports youths should make sincere and dedicated efforts in excelling through sports youths.
Games and sports should not only be for mere entertainment and leisure but take it up professionally with handwork and discipline to achieve greater success at higher levels, Khing encouraged them.
Meanwhile, Khing lauded the efforts of Rengma Sports Association in providing the platform for the youths to showcase their talent.
RSA president G K Rengma delivered the presidential address. Welcome address was delivered by Benjamin Lorin. Special number was performed by Eunice Thong, Match Commissioner Hinilo Thong administered oath to the teams while RSA Joint Secretary Kenilo Tep tendered the vote of thanks.
The sports meet will conclude on January 19.
