Kohima | March 17 : As part of recalling back the martyrdom of late Kekuojalie, Late Vikhozo and late Zekope Krome, who laid down their lives for the cause of the Nagas under the initiative of Naga Students Federation (NSF) way back during 1980’s, the NSF Martyr’s Park located at PR.Hill Kohima is under renovation and is nearing completion.
The Park which was constructed during 1986 is maintained by NSF. The park has not undergone any major renovation after it was constructed, but presently under the initiative of present NSF chief Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, a major renovation work is being carried out like the fencing of the entire demarcated boundaries, and constructing of Traditional hut inside the park etc.
Interacting with NSF chief Mutsikhoyi Yhobu, this morning here at the construction site, Yhobu told The Morung Express that for more than two decades, no major renovation work was initiated till date. He said, “the history of the NSF-struggling for the Indo-Nag political issue would never go wrong, and in the meantime stay fresh in the minds of the youngsters as long as Martyr Park is being maintained with proper care” and added that it would provide correct information of the Federation struggles besides it would retrospect the initiatives of the Federation in remembering the precious lives of the martyrs.
When queried on the fund for the ongoing renovation, he said, “there is no accurate source of fund for the renovation work, however as my tenure is nearing retirement, I just mentally prepared to carry out the work at any cost since I was elected as President and after working out at different corners, along with the support of my colleagues and well wishers I was undertaking this very work,” adding that the expected expenditure was calculated to Rs. 5, 00,000.
Yhobu further stated that the 25th Anniversary of NSF Martyrs Day falls on March 20th, which will be held at the very site. Yhobu also conveys special invitation to the entire students’ community to be part of the Anniversary. He further appeals to those students who are far away from Kohima to remember the martyrs on the day as part of remembering and honoring their departed soul.
Intending to complete the renovation work before the 25th Anniversary, Yhobu is personally supervising the ongoing work everyday and further reported that he was making himself present at the construction site at least four to five hours a day.
