Renowned playwright Krishnamurthy visits Dimapur

Possibility of opening a chapter of Soorya Stage and Film Society shortly  

DIMAPUR, APRIL 3 (MExN): Soorya Krishnamurthy, the Chairman of the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy and renowned director of drama and stage shows and founder of Soorya Stage and Film Society, the largest visited Dimapur on March 30. 

A press note informed that  the purpose of his visit was to study the possibility of opening a chapter of the Soorya Stage and Film Society in Dimapur. Krishnamurthy had an interactive session with cultural enthusiasts of Dimapur at the office of the Kerala Samajam, Dimapur at Midland. At the end of the session it was decided in his presence that a chapter of the Soorya Stage and Film Society would be opened in Dimapur shortly. The first major cultural event of the chapter would be held in the later part of this year.

Earlier, during the interaction, he emphasized on the need to preserve, protect and propagate the traditional art forms of Kerala for the progress of humanity through culture.  

He enlightened the gathering with his vast knowledge in traditional arts and his experience in working with artists for more than three decades. He lamented that many traditional art forms are dying due to the “over importance given to films and film stars.” The artists involved in the traditional art forms are denied due respect and recognition in the society.   

He drew out his plans for the uplifting of traditional arts and do the needful for raising the living standard of performing artists in his capacity as the chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Radhakrishnan Nair, Advisor, KSD chaired the meeting. Reji Abraham, President KSD delivered the welcome address and Reji Kuriakose, Secretary KSD pronounced the vote of thanks.
