New Delhi, January 26 (MExN): The 75th Republic Day was celebrated at Nagaland House, 29-Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi with Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, P Paiwang Konyak as the chief guest. MLA, B Bangtick Phom along with senior officers and staff of Nagaland House (NH), New Delhi were also present during the celebration, stated a press release received here. 

In his address, Minister Paiwang Konyak highlighted the Nagaland government’s works and developments that are taking place.

 He stated that in order to provide affordable health care and improve health facilities, the State’s first medical college - Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR), Kohima was inaugurated by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemical & Fertilizers, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on October 14, 2023. He informed that there is further plan for future expansion and construction of a 400-bed hospital, and establishing another Medical College in Mon with intake capacity of 100 MBBS students per year. 

The Minister highlighted the free medical insurance that is made available to all the citizens through the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) and Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB - PMJAY). He added that innovative Public Private Partnership based 10 Bed ICU Project was launched by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland in partnership with eGov Foundation and Karuna Trust to provide 10 bed ICU Wards across District Hospitals and Tele ICU Hub at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima to solve the problem of lack of ICU and shortage of medical specialists in remote hospitals. 

Recognising the vast potential Nagaland has in tourism sector, he said the State Government intents on creating employment opportunities and economic growth through the tourism industry, and to improve tourism infrastructure the Government has signed a lease agreement with Hotel Polo Towers Group for development of the State’s first ever five-star hotel with entertainment and retail facilities at Dimapur and Kohima. 

With agriculture playing an important role in the State’s economy, Paiwang said that the State Government is focusing on combining traditional method of farming with technology, and the first agriculture Kisan Drone was launched in the State which will help with more efficiency, reducing cost and increasing yield. Further adding that through the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North-Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER) scheme, Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO)/Farmer Producer Company (FPC) have been able to export their produce to other parts of the country.

The Minister stated that the Government in order to skill and empower the youth has established the Unnati Skill Centre, Kohima, in partnership with Boeing. In the field of sports, Khelo India Centres have been established in 14 sports discipline in various districts. He further stated that five (5) multidisciplinary indoor sports stadium each in Chümoukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Noklak were also inaugurated recently.

Minister Paiwang also shed light on the Department of Youth Resources & Sports initiative in launching ‘Youth Recreational and Impact Centres’ under the State Innovative Programme, which will be set up in Longleng, Mon, Tuensang and Kiphire districts. These Centre aims to create a healthy and adequately equipped space for the youth and serve as a healthy outlet for their creativity and energy, the release stated.
