Attendees of the ten-day ‘Research Methodology Course in Social Sciences’ organised by the Department of Sociology, Nagaland University on the inaugural day on May 21 at Lumami.

Lumami, May 26 (MExN): A ten-day Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)- sponsored ‘Research Methodology (RM) Course in Social Sciences’ organised by the Department of Sociology, Nagaland University (NU) is currently underway at its Lumami campus. The course will conclude on May 31.
The inaugural programme, chaired by Prof Toshimenla Jamir, took place at the Conference Hall, Department of Sociology, NU, Lumami Campus on May 21.
In his opening remarks, Prof Athungo Ovung, Course Director & Head, underscored the significance of RM as a fundamental aspect of research inquiry.
He expressed hope that the course would familiarise participants with the latest tools and techniques of social science research, with eminent researchers from across the country delivering lectures as resource persons.
The programme was graced by the NU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jagadish K Patnaik as the Guest of Honour, who deliberated on the history and development of research methods in social sciences in India.
He also stressed the necessity for indigenising research methods to better understand local social problems.
Prof Patnaik encouraged participants to apply originality and contextualise research methods to the Indian scenario, advising them to actively engage in the course to enhance their research skills.
In his vote of thanks Dr Suraj Beri, acknowledged the contribution and support of the university administration, colleagues, and research scholars in the department for the successful launch of the ‘Ten-Day Research Methodology Course in Social Sciences’.
The inaugural programme saw attendance from the Dean of Social Sciences, faculty members from various departments, officers, and research scholars in the university.
