Following a cold response from the state government, the Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) will be holding a sit-in protest on July 9 at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat from 9 am onwards.
This was decided during a meeting attended by the apex organisations of the five tribes Angami, Ao, Sema, Lotha and Rengma, and its youth and students’ organisations as well.
Speaking to The Morung Express, following the meeting held today at Hotel Ura, Kohima, GK Zhimomi, CoRRP member secretary said this was a ‘unanimous’ decision to go ahead with phase-2 agitation in the form of sit-in protest.
Reiterating its two core demands to either scrap off the policy or give the balance of the unreserved quota, Zhimomi has termed the government lackadaisical approach to this issue as ‘delay tactics.’
He further stated that during the June 3 meeting led by the Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, it was ‘them’ who proposed the idea of setting up a commission within a month’s time which ended today.
Despite its assurance, Zhimomi expressed dismay stating ‘till today, neither the composition of the commission nor the terms of reference has been made public. It’s a delay tactics on the part of the government.’
“If the government has the political will, this is not an issue that can be prolonged for years” he further stated.
