‘Poor and neglected weaker sections of the society in government schools have been rendered helpless and voiceless’
Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has urged the Nagaland State Government to “resolve the grievances registered by the aggrieved SSA teachers at the earliest.”
“The State Government’s lackadaisical attitude towards the thousands of agitating teachers is worsening the normal functioning of classes that has been already affected by the recently concluded State General Assembly Elections and Lok Sabha by-election in Government run schools. With half of the academic sessions coming to an end, the students from the poor and neglected weaker sections of the society that constitute most students in Government Schools have been rendered helpless and voiceless because of the ongoing agitation,” stated USSC President, Sepikyu J. Sangtam, in a press release today.
The USSC, thus, impressed upon the State Government as well as the authorities concerned to resolve the issue and “take a firm decision for the aggrieved teachers so that the remaining academic months are not lost due to impasse."
As per a recent enquiry, the USSC found that “there are hardly any schools where the aggrieved agitating SSA teachers’ are not posted. In some schools, the whole functioning has been totally paralyzed for months because of the continued phase wise agitation carried out by the aggrieved SSA teachers.”
The students’ body wondered why teachers are being made to “undergo hardships to the extent of coming all the way to Kohima to demand their legitimate rights,” putting to question if the “concerned authorities are genuinely and sincerely interested in working out to resolve the issues raised by the aggrieved teachers from time to time.”
Finally, the USSC reminded the authorities concerned that education is the “basic foundation for any society to prosper and develop.”
It appealed to all right thinking citizens, student bodies as well as various organizations to “come out and stand in solidarity with the aggrieved teachers so that the matter is resolved at the earliest.”
