Following the recession of drain and rainwater which seeped into residential homes in the vicinity of Dimapur Railway station, the Dimapur Municipal Council on Friday cleared drains and sprayed bleaching powder in the locality.
The recent clogged drain beneath railway track had displace hundreds of families in Chatteswari, Manipuri, Westyard, Railway Bazaar colonies and other adjoining localities. Some displaced families were seen returning to their homes with belongings on Friday.
DMC Executive Engineer, Badal Badra who was at the site told media persons that the DMC has been spraying bleaching powder in the area since the past one week as a preventive measure for further outbreak of waterborne diseases. He informed that the clogged drain beneath railway track has been cleared and the water level has receded in the vicinity.
DMC Sanitation Inspector, Reho T. Anar appealed the residents not to dump huge solid wastes into the drain as it leads to avoidable clogging of drainage. He pointed out drain encroachment as one of the many factors for causing flood in the localities. “Earlier, the drains were wide enough for smooth flow of sewage but the drains have become narrower due to encroachment,” he said.
He also appealed the public in the area not to dump building wastes into the drains.
