‘Responsible tourism need of the hour’

Awareness campaign & sanitation programme held in Dzükou

Kohima, September 5 (MExN): The India Tourism Imphal, Ministry of Tourism, government of India in collaboration with Pier Tours organised an awareness campaign and sanitation programme at Dzükou Valley on September 3. The programme was attended by a group of people undergoing tour guide training by Youth Net in partnership with Department of Planning and Coordination and Directorate of Tourism, government of Nagaland with Pier Tours, Kohima Nagaland as the training partner. Altogether, around 32 participants attended the event.

The sanitation drive was followed by a brief programme with Onen Nenty, the brand ambassador of Nagaland Tourism, government of Nagaland as the resource person. She shared the importance of responsible tourism and the need to reduce the carbon footprints. Mentioning that Dzükou valley has become a top trekking destination in Nagaland and North-East India with the increasing inflow of tourists, especially during summer, Nenty appealed travellers to be responsible and to try to reduce carbon footprints so that we can make Dzükou and Nagaland a sustainable tourism destination.

“As tour guides, we have a very big role to play. We should be examples to visitors and tourists so that they can learn from us to be responsible travellers," she added.

The programme ended with the participants taking a pledge not to litter and to remain responsible tour guides. The programme coordinator Kejaroko Pieru, Founder, Pier Tours, thanked all the participants, SAYO and the Dzükou Management in making the event a success.
