Massive restoration work is ongoing at the affected roads of NH-29 along the stretch of old KMC dumping site near Faith Theological Seminary, Jotsoma.

The affected area lies around 5 km from TCP Gate, Kohima. Major landslide occurred on August 4 along this stretch, causing extensive damage to the road, private houses and cultivation areas.

Incessant rains over the last two day has aggravated the mudslides on this stretch, affecting smooth execution of the restoration works, a JCB driver told The Morung Express.

A National Highway official when contacted expressed inability to predict as to when this portion of the affected highway road would be restored due to extensive damage of the road and the continuous mudslides.

Mention may be made that Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited this affected site on August 15 last. Rio discussed with the concerned officials to find ways to restore this important road which is also lifeline of Manipur at the earliest. He suggested that some temporary passages should be opened as early as possible while also working on the permanent solution.

Rio further directed the Power Grid Corporation to shift or remove high tension power lines and tower which were affected by the landslide.
