DIMAPUR, APRIL 29 (MExN): Excise Narcotics Cell personnel stationed at Khuzama inter-state check-post recovered more than a lakh tablet of restricted pharmaceutical drug on April 27. One person identified as Md. Warish Khan was arrested alongwith the illicit contraband. Bearing the brand name ‘Actione BR’ with bromhexine and pseudoephedrine as its main chemical constituents, this kind of medicinal drugs can be acquired only on prescription by a certified medical professional.
According to Deputy Commissioner, Excise (Narcotic Cell), Pitongse Sangtam, the illicit consignment contained 1, 00, 750 tablets in total. Its actual retail price is Rs. 3.75 per ten pills. However, the accused said that he acquired the pills at Rs. 48 per ten tablets at Kolkata amounting to around Rs. 4.5 lakhs. After acquiring the pills, he boarded a train till Guwahati from where he got on a bus for Imphal without any trouble. His luck however ran out at the Khuzama check-post. He was supposed to dispose it in Moreh at a profit of more than a lakh.
Hailing from Lilang Hoarabi Mayai Leihai in Thoubal district, Manipur, the accused in his statement to the Excise said that it was his second attempt in drug trafficking. In the first attempt, he had successfully crossed many security check-points making it to Manipur carrying a similar consignment of drugs.
