‘Retelling Naga Narratives’ book released

Jakhama: A book on folk tales titled, Retelling Naga Narratives: More Than Thrice-Told Tales, edited by Richard Carbo, John Coakley, and Abraham Lotha was launched by Saku Francis Rolnu, an elder of Jakhama village, at St. Joseph’s College on March 25.

The book is an outcome of the folktales written by Third Year students in 2010 and 2011 for Value Education classes taught by Fr. Abraham Lotha, Principal, at St. Joseph’s College. The students’ submissions of folktales generated a treasure trove of stories. A few of these stories were selected to capture a glimpse of the Nagas’ storytelling past and the profound values that enabled the Nagas to live their lives as a people.

The seventy-four folktales in Retelling Naga Narratives are examples of a rich repository of entertainment, values and wisdom among the Nagas. Heritage Publishers, Dimapur, published the book.
