Seeing and understanding the acute shortage of doctors being faced by the department of Health & Family Welfare, some senior doctors who retired on superannuation, have decided to return and give a helping hand as ‘simple medical officers.’ This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report of the Department of Health Family Welfare tabled in the state assembly Thursday by Health minister Kuzholuzo Nienu.
“This is indeed a most generous gesture on their part, and the department warmly welcomes them back and is very grateful to them,” the report said. Those who have selflessly offered their services again include Dr. Ditsolo Kapfo, retired additional director, Dr. M. Sashi, Retired Deputy Director, Dr. Y . Ovung, retired joint director, Dr. W. Martin Kithan, retired civil surgeon and Dr. R. K Palai, Retired ZLO.
Dr. Ditsolo joined service as Assistant Surgeon-1 at NHK on July 20; posted to Chozuba PHC (now CHC) in 1973; posted to Chizami Hospital (now PHC) in 1975; transferred to Phek Civil Hospital in May 1981 and then to Pfutsero Civil Hospital in June 1981; transferred to Kohima as Assistant Civil Surgeon on promotion in 1983, and in 1988 posted as District Immunization Office (DIO) Kohima; promoted and posted to Phek as Civil Surgeon in 1990; posted to Directorate as Deputy Director in 1994; promoted to joint director in 2000; promoted to additional director & HOD in 2001 and retired from the post in 2003.
Dr. M. Sashi joined service as Assistant Surgeon- 1 in Mokokchung Civil Hospital in April 1978; transferred to Longjang Civil Hospital in March 1979; transferred back to Mokokchung Civil Hospital in July 1980; served at Mokokchung TB Hospital from August 1981 to April 1983; posted to Mokokchung civil hospital in May 1983; promoted and posted as SDMO(H) Mokokchung in November 1989; posted as Zonal Malaria Officer Mokokchung in October 1983; promoted and posted as Civil Surgeon, Mokokchung in July 1999; posted as Deputy Director (Malaria) in March 2001 and retired from the capacity in July 2002.
Dr. Y. Ovung joined service as Assistant Surgeon- 1 at Naga Hospital, Kohima on 15th July 1981; posted to Civil Hospital, Wokha in 1986; promoted and posted to Mokokchung as SDMO in 1994; posted to Phek in 1995; posted to Wokha in 2000; promoted and posted to Directorate as Joint Secretary in 2006 and retired in the capacity on 31st August 2007.
Dr. W. Martin Kithan joined service as Assistant Suregon-1 at Naga Hospital, Kohima in 1977; posted to Pughoboto Dispensary in 1978; transferred to Pfutsero Civil Hospital in 1979; posted to Kiphire Civil Hospital in 1981; posted to Zunheboto Civil Hospital in 1985 and to Moilan Dispensary in 1986; posted to Wokha Civil Hospital as Medical Superintendent on promotion in 1987; posted to Civil Surgeon’s office, Mon as SDMO (H) in 1989; posted to Directorate of Health Services, Kohima as Assistant Director (HIB) in 1993; transferred to Tuensang as District Tuberculosis Officer in 1997; promoted and posted to Zunheboto as Civil Surgeon in 2002; transferred to Phek as Civil Surgeon in 2003; transferred to Wokha as Civil Surgeon in 2004 and retired from this position in 2006 on superannuation.
Dr. RK Palai joined service as Assistant Suregon-1 at Suruhuto Dispensary, Zunheboto district in 1972; transferred to Noklak PHC (now CHC) in 1977; transferred to Noksen Civil Hospital as medical officer in-charge in 1982, but was transferred to Tuensang Civil Hospital in the same year; transferred back to Noksen Civil Hospital in 1983; promoted and posted to Tuensang as DIO in 1984; posted as Zonal Leprosy Officer, Tuensang in 1985 and retired from the capacity in 2005.
