Retirement Case: Deferred once again

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): The ongoing court case between Nagaland’s senior government employees versus the Nagaland Retirement from Public Service (Second Amendment) Bill 2009 has been deferred again. In today’s hearing, the Guahati High Court deferred the case to next week, Wednesday the 23rd. Sources said the case was adjourned as the Chief Justice of Guahati High Court was on leave while the judge “in-charge” was attending a conference. Another judge is also said to be engaged in case proceedings of another. The Nagaland Senior Government Employees’ Welfare Association had challenged the Nagaland government’s bill in the court. Guahati High Court had admitted the petition and directed the state government to respond by September 7. A hearing was fixed for September 15. The court had to defer the hearing to the 17th as a judge of the four-judge hearing bench reportedly opted out of the case on account of his having ‘participated’ in a similar case in 1991 as an advocate.
