DIMAPUR, JULY 25 (MExN): Advisor for Land Revenue, Law & Justice, TN Mannen on Tuesday said retirement is merely a state of mind, and as long as one is physically healthy, there is no age limit for making positive contributions to society.

Addressing the inaugural of the Kohima Ao Pensioners’ Union (KAPT) general meeting at Jubilee Memorial Centre, Lerie, Kohima, Mannen viewed life as a journey and expressed gratitude for reaching a point where individuals can retire from public office, enjoy pension benefits, and continue contributing to society, a DIPR report stated.

In the same vein, former chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir remarked that life starts at retirement and pension marks the beginning of a new phase in one’s life.

The retired IAS officer explained that due to advancements in medical, pharmacological technologies, and improvements in nutrition, the average life expectancy has significantly increased allowing retirees to have ten to fifteen years of life ahead.

He highlighted that life after retirement presents an opportunity to start something new and contribute to society, leveraging the vast experience and knowledge acquired while serving in public offices.

Towards this, Jamir encouraged the pensioners to form discussion groups and evolve into working groups, becoming think tanks for society. Starting such group activities would be a wonderful gift to the younger generation, he added.

During the event, the new president elect of KAPT, Dr Watijungshi, delivered the welcome address, and Yanger Aier, Kohima Ao Union president extended greetings on behalf of the Union.

The newly formulated constitution of KAPT was presented to the members by Limawati Longchar, KAPT general secretary, which was unanimously accepted and adopted by the members, officially forming the Kohima Ao Pensioners’ Union. The newly formed Union comprises more than 500 members and is open to all retired government servants from the Ao community in Kohima.
