Review on COVID-19 vax, testing for Jakhama held

Kohima, July 17 (MExN): A review cum sensitization programme on Covid-19 vaccination and testing for Jakhama sub-division was organised by Kohima District Task Force (DTF) at Bamboo Hall, Kisama on July 17.

According to a DIPR report, Minister in-charge, Tongpang Ozukum, Minister for PWD (Mechanical & Housing) stated that Nagaland has recorded the lowest when it comes to testing and vaccination but highest in death rate in the country and in order to improve the situation the public need to take individual responsibility and follow all SOPs as laid down by the government.

“This is a pandemic, a real disease knocking on our door. Let us be responsible in the absence of a proper cure. We have the best medical team in Kohima and the best facilities comparing to other districts and if we cannot take use of this facilities it will be a shame for our district as a whole,” he appealed. “We have tackled and contained the first wave of COVID-19 but yet we are not able to contain second wave till now so if the third wave hits us, we cannot fight for the future of our children and generation,” he opined.

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, NCS stressed on the three tools of Covid appropriate behaviours and the provision of law laid down under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897/Nagaland Epidemic Diseases (Covid-19) Rules 2020 and relevant section under IPC 188. 

CMO Kohima, Dr Vezokholu Theyo emphasized on the three Covid appropriate behavior tools to stop the transmission of the virus. On the COVID vaccine, CMO said the protective effects of Covishield are - to prevent infection - 65%, to prevent hospitalization – 77%, reduce need of oxygen – 92% and reduce ICU admission - 94%. She therefore urged every 18 years and above to get vaccinated as it was the only way to go back to normal life. Highlighting on the Covid vaccine status under Jakhama block, CMO informed that overall vaccinated percentage stands at 52.39 %.  

Village Council Chairmen, representatives from women organisation, Covid Village Task Force, Southern Angami Public Organisation, Southern Angami Women Organisation and Southern Angami Youth Organisation attended the programme.

Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, Er Zale Neikha, Advisor for Technical Education & Election, Medo Yhokha, and Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire also attended the programme.
