Revive, execute and expedite PMGSY road projects in Peren: ZSU-N

PEREN, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The Zeme Students’ Union (Nagaland) has sought the immediate attention of the government authorities with regard to long delayed rural road projects in the Nsong and Kebai-Khelma areas of Peren district.

In a press release, the ZSU (N) said that road projects commissioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) – Jalukie-Ahthibung Road, Khelma to Ikiesingram, Lalong to Nzauna and Ngam to Lalong – remains incomplete and as good as abandoned 10 years after commissioning, while the condition of the roads deteriorates.

It said that several ultimatums over the years to the contractors and the Department in concern have yielded no reaction whatsoever.

Questioning the apathy of the contractors and the Department, it asserted that ignoring the plight of the people of Nsong and Kebai-Khelma areas any further the ZSU (N) will initiate action to claim what is rightfully due to the public. In the event of any untoward incident, the Union should not be held responsible, it added.

“The Union earnestly asks the PWD (R&B) PMGSY to execute and expedite the work without any delay this season.”

It further objected to the Peren District Contractors and Suppliers Union (PDCSU) writing to the PWD (Roads & Bridges) demanding the cancellation of a Notice Inviting Tender for the NEC funded Tening-Letkie Road.

“The Union reiterates that any individuals, groups or parties disrupting or causing blockage to development in the areas will be taken as against the development of the areas and the Union will not entertain such incident in its jurisdiction,” the ZSU (N) said.

It added that the ZSU (N) welcomes any development activity “but taking advantages of the remoteness of the Areas and delaying or diverting the rights of the people will no longer be tolerated.”
