Rhododendron tree plantation drive was taken up in Jakhama village under the initiative of the Nagaland Rhododendron Society (NRS) as part of the celebration for World Environment Day at Rhododendron Conservation Centre, Jakhama, Kohima under the theme 'Our land, Our future.'

Dr Azo Louis Kharütso, senior Specialist Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and advisor of NRS was the guest for the program. 

Kharütso urged members to plant trees and to take care of it and emphasised that it is not only for one day but all need to take care of the trees throughout their life. 

He asked the members to reflect on the state of our planet and the impact of human activities on our natural world.

"Climate change, pollution, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity are just some of the pressing challenges we face today, the speaker underscored while adding that it is our collective responsibility to address these issues and work towards a sustainable future. 

Kharütso said each one of us has a role to play in protecting the environment whether in reducing our carbon footprint, conserving water, or supporting renewable energy, every action counts adding that together, we can make a difference.

Earlier in the programme, Dr Keliihol Tase, President, NRS welcomed the members. Ranthiiza colony youths and teachers from GMS Jakhama were also present.  

The programme began with a prayer by Khetoni Tase, Chaplin Zhodi Fellowship.
