‘Right to vote is a constitutional right’

Outreach programme on SVEEP held at Samziuram Village

PEREN, MARCH 20 (MExN): A one day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) on Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) was organised by the Central Bureau of Communication, Field Office, Kohima, Ministry of Information &Broadcasting, Government of India at Samziuram Village, Peren District on March 20. 

School Administrator of Baptist High School, Iheu Hegeu, while speaking on the occasion as chief guest, emphasized that every voter should understand the importance of their voting rights. She further added that every voter should exercise their vote after carefully knowing the antecedents of candidates to elect a good leader who can take our community forward, a PIB release informed. 

Numlu Pame, Chairman, Samziuram Village Council, who was the guest of honor, said that in order to build a strong and develop society, one need to be educated and vote for the right leader who is committed and trustworthy.

Relui, Head Mistress, who was the resource person, elaborated and enlightened the audience about ethical and informed voting , use of Electronic Voting Machine,(EVM), Voters Verifiable  Paper Audit Trail(VVPAT),Voter’s Guide and Responsibilities of Presiding Officers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Engam Pame, Regional Director, CBC, RO, Imphal informed the gathering that the right to vote is a constitutional right. He emphasized that in order to bring a better and developed society; we need a good leader and good governance.  Therefore every rightful voter  should exercise their precious vote ethically. He further added that the Election Commission of India have introduced a mobile application app, namely, “C-VIGIL: Citizens Be Vigilant” to enable users to report any election related irregularities and violation of MCC or violence promptly.

Engaging the audience further, an on-the-spot quiz competition was held and prizes along with certificates were distributed to the winners. In addition, CBC FO, Kohima will continue to conduct ICOP on SVEEP in the coming days and cover the following places namely, Mhaikam, Beisumpuikam, Peren Town, Tesen and Nngam under Peren District.
