Rihanna to Star in New Music Drama 'Annette'

Rihanna to star opposite Adam Driver in Annette, a new music drama from French director Leos Carax, Variety reports. The Los Angeles art-rock duo Sparks wrote the screenplay and new music for the film.   According to Deadline, Annette tells the story of a stand-up comedian who's left to raise a two-year-old with a surprising gift after his opera singer wife dies. It's unclear what characters Rihanna and Driver will play. Rooney Mara was also originally attached to star in the movie, but dropped out due to other commitments. A replacement has yet to be announced.   Annette also marks Rihanna's latest acting role. The pop star recently kicked off a run on Bates Motel – A&E's contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho – as the doomed Marion Crane (originally portrayed by Janet Leigh). Rihanna has several more upcoming projects, including Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and Ocean's Eight.   As for Driver, the actor is currently starring in the final season of HBO's Girls. He's also set to appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opens December 15th, and Steven Soderbergh's NASCAR heist movie, Logan Lucky, out August 18th.
