Rio looking forward to new challenges

KOHIMA, MARCH 19 (MExN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today expressed his gratitude to the DAN partners for reposing their faith in him for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Rio said he accepted the party ticket with humility and sought God’s blessing and the blessing and support of the people “so we together make it victorious for the party and for the people”

Speaking at the CEC meeting of the NPF cum ticket distribution ceremony here, Rio said that he is going to take bigger responsibilities for the people, for the state and for the cause. Rio said that the party has a long way to go in the service of the people and looked forward to working together with bigger responsibilities.

“It will be like me going out of my comfort zone,” he said and sought more support and cooperation from the party. “Our focus is how to do and how to give the best result in the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

Rio alleged that the Prime Minister did not visit the state in 10 years and that the Nagaland Congress has always advised the ministry and union ministers not to visit the state of Nagaland and not to give any project to the state.

He added that the Congress did not cooperate in the assembly resolutions over Article 371 (A) on ownership of land and its resources.
Touching on rule of executive business, he said that no state in the country sends files to Governor and “we want to follow the same system.” He continued that in 1963, the Nagas were not verse with the constitutional, governance and as such all files would go to Governor.

However, he stated that, in the rule of executive business, the Chief Minister’s approval is mentioned very clearly and not the approval of the Governor.

Rio lamented that in this case as well, the Congress party did not take part and walked out. “We need to tell our people who is for our people and who is against our people,” he added.
