Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today urged upon the people of the state to make Nagaland a peaceful state. Speaking at the Combined Pre- Christmas Celebration 2012 of Legislators’ Christian Fellowship, Civil Secretariat and Assembly Secretariat and Directorates at NBCC Convention Center here this evening, Rio said that Nagas have been shouting at the top of their voice that “we want peace.”
As believers and Christian community, he said in this Christmas season all the people have to ponder as to how to bring peace in our land and also as how we should have peace with one another. Further, he called for ensuring peaceful environment in the state so that the people can go about with their daily affairs.
Rio also said that the legislators support the decision of Nagaland Baptist Church Council for free and fair elections in the State. As a Christian, one should have Christian values, he said and maintained that “if any social reformation has to come it is through religion.” Rio asserted that a time has come to stop blaming one another and uphold Christian values.
The Chief Minister said that one needed to listen to Church leaders so that it would result in better politicians and leaders acceptable in the eyes of God. Rio asserted that it was through the grace of God, the DAN government came through to the last year of its tenure and expressed gratitude to the believers and church leaders for their prayer and support. He made a special mention of State Chaplain Rev. K. Luruo for his spiritual guidance. He also requested the latter to continue praying for them.
Chief Secretary Lalthara shared greetings while NBCC General Secretary Rev. Dr. Anjo Keikung delivered a message. The celebration witnessed special numbers from legislators Deo Nukhu and Chotisuh Sazo along with their lady wives, Assembly Secretariat choir, Kohima Orphanage Home, Chang Baptist Church Kohima, Lotha Baptist Church Kohima and Union Baptist Church Kohima. The service was led by Minister for Agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry while Rev. K. Luruo pronounced benediction.
