Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio on Saturday wished to see that Nagaland is included in the list of the new concept of cluster villages called “Rurban” launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The National Rurban Mission aims to spur social, economic and infrastructure development in rural areas by developing a cluster of 300 Smart Villages over the next 3 years across the country.
Under Rurban Mission, he said the area people can come together and for tribal and hill area within the population of 15,000 plus can come together, so that these areas are turned into townships with infrastructure support from the government.
The MP said this during the second day of Nagaland Youth Summit here Saturday. He said that in foothills, starting from Tizit, Naginimora, Tuli, the Rurban concept can be brought, where clusters of villages can come together and get help from the GoI. This, according to him would also provide opportunities for young entrepreneurs to develop township and commercial activities.
Rio said that in three years, the Centre is going to select 300 Rurbans in the country. This opportunity will be starting from next financial year in April, he said.
“We should see that Nagaland enters into this Rurban map,” he said adding that this will be a new opportunity to start a fresh, coming together as cluster of villages and build up townships and commercial hubs.
