Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur on Friday reserved its judgement on the case of the educational qualification of former State Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio. The CJM reserved judgment after the hearing from the counsels on the issue of limitation period.

Speaking to media persons after the hearing, Counsel for Rio, Vitsorel Lcho said that they (Rio side) have appealed the court to drop the charges against him as the complaint was filed after the limitation period. “If any such complaint is to be filed then it has to be done within a year starting from the date of alleged offence committed,” Lcho said and added that the complaint in the present case was filed after a delay of two years.

It was on this technical ground that the Counsel for Rio appealed the Court to dismiss the case.

The Counsel said there was not much argument on the merit of the case since the Police complaint against Rio was not relevant. “The educational certificate was not forged and it was a bonafide mistake committed by the institution and the MP (Rio) had mistakenly used it with no criminal intention,” he added.

Further, he informed that the Court had clubbed the FIR and complaint filed by individuals since the allegations were same.
