Rising Above Challenges: CYF 14th Biennial General Conference

The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) today held its 14th Biennial General Conference under the theme “Rising Above Challenges” at Pholami village in Phek district with Nagaland Power & Parliamentary Affairs, Minister KG Kenye as the special guest.

Addressing the conference, Kenye called upon the youth to stand firm on the principle of the CYF, formed in 1995 to safeguard the people. Maintaining that Chakhesang community is catching up with the rest of the community and flourishing in many ways, he stressed on the need to increase the level of better understanding and forge peace and unity. “Exercise your mind,” he said and also told the youth to rededicate themselves and give their best to face various challenges ahead.

God's interventions will unify all Nagas to live as one, he said and stressed on the need to maintain peace and unity among the Nagas elsewhere to move forward and to achieve the common aspiration. Kenye also stressed on the need to cultivate a culture of healthy competition to succeed in different fields. 

Recalling that Chakhesang was previously known as Eastern Angami and got recognition as separate tribe in 1946, Kenye underscored the need to uphold brotherhood between the Angami and Chakhesang communities. Stating that negotiations for solution to Naga political issue is going on between the Government of India and Naga political groups, he called upon the people to have more understanding and unity. The Minister also released CYF amended constitution.

‘Be bold to speak the truth’
Sharing greetings, Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) president Veziihii Keyho urged upon the CYF to never comprise the principle of truth and integrity.

“Uphold your integrity,” he said adding that trustworthiness is the best weapon for a progressive society. “Be bold to speak the truth,” he said and asked the youth to never sell out the hard earned image of the Chakhesang community. He also called upon the youth to exercise the principle of forgiveness, adding that forgiveness is the only means to resolve any issue.

Angami Youth Organization (AYO) President Kesosul Christopher Ltu also shared greetings. He stressed on the need to build collaborative effort between the AYO and CYF to take the community forward. Let us help one another during difficult situation and celebrate the goodness together, he said.

CYF President, Vezhodiiyi Nakro said that CYF was formed during trying times of political and social crisis, adding that CYF was formed on 20 July 1995 for the purpose of protecting and serving its community and the nation.

Touching on biodiversity conservation within Chakhesang area in line with CPO’s resolution, Nakro sought the continuous support of the CYF units. “Help us to safeguard our land, our resources, our tradition and our people as we remain in the forefront,” he said.

The CYF shall keep rising above challenges and we shall rise above all our challenges!, he added.

CYF new team announced
CYF executive council nomination committee convenor Dr Zokho Venuh has announced the new team of CYF for the tenure for the tenure 2024-26. The new team will be led by Kevesa Khamo of Lozaphuhu village as President and Nokho Nyekha of Chesezu village as General Secretary among the others.

Rev Dr Chekroveyi Cho-o, Executive Secretary Chakhesang Baptist Church Council pronounced the act of blessing for the new team.

Kiitsapo village has been conferred with CYF Award for “Best Performing Biodiversity Conservation Award.' The Best piggery farmer award has been was presented to Lhiwetso Wezah (Zapami), Vecusuyi Chuzho (Rihuba village), Thupupra Medeo (Khusomi), Pudusayi Dasai (Porba) and Thupuve Vero (Phek village).

Earlier, Ura Dziivekro and Dziiziiveh Swiiro also performed at the conference. The programme was chaired by CYF Vice President Nyitso Therie. Rev Z David Koza, Executive Secretary CCRCC pronounced dedicatory prayer for unveiling of commemorative plaque, which was unveiled by KG Kenye. Earlier, Vezokho Vezhii, Pastor Pholami Baptist Church pronounced invocation prayer for the main function while Vepozolii Kezo, Associate Pastor (Women) Pholami Baptist Church pronounced benediction. Vote of thanks was proposed by CYF treasurer Sevonyi Keyho.

North East Students” Organization (NESO) Secretary General, Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, Naga Students' Federation President, Medovi Rhi, Tenyimi Union Nagaland President, Kekhwengulo Lea, Chakhesang Students' Union President, Avezo Kevin Kapu, Chakhesang Mothers' Association President, Zhonelu Tunyi and several other dignitaries also graced the conference.
