RMSA teachers' body seeks clarification on reduction of salary

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 22 (MExN): The Nagaland RMSA Teachers' Associaiton-2016 on Wednesday cried foul over what it termed as “betrayal policy” played by the Principal Secretary and Mission Director, RMSA on the issue of the reduction of their salary by Rs 6315 basing on the directive from the MHRD following the merger of SSA and RMSA into Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

A press release issued by NRMSATA-2016 maintained that both the Principal Secretary and the Mission Director during a tripartite meeting held on August 20 had maintained that the OM notifying the reduction of salary was unofficial and had assured the association that their best efforts would be given to ensure that the teachers' salaries are not reduced.

However, the next day, i.e, on August 21, contrary to their statement, RMSA teachers from different districts were served the OM which was dated August 17 and were asked to personally go to their respective DEOs and sign the bond agreement for accepting the reduced salary with the threat that their services will be terminated if not accepted within a month’s time, the association alleged.

In this connection, the association has condemned “such betrayal policy of the government” and sought clarification through press media. The association also demanded immediate revocation of the OM.

It also reaffirmed its earlier stand that it will never accept the reduced salary at any point of time and has warned all its members to refrain from signing the bond agreement as they would be doing so at their own risks.

The association also questioned as to why the OM was served only to RMSA 2016 batch if it is based on the merger policy into Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. It stated that according to the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan draft document, the salary structure would be determined by the State norms for salaries and all teachers are ultimately the responsibility of the state.

Hence, all teachers recruited through the same mode of appointment i.e through ‘free and fair’ competitive exam should be given equal treatment regardless of the year of appointment or erstwhile scheme, it demanded.
