Dimapur, June 27 (MExN): MS Paneshwar & Sons, the constructing company surfacing the Wokha-Merapani stretch has attracted the ire of the Lotha Students Union for what the students’ stated “deliberate defective construction.” The constructing company is given a 5-day ultimatum and warned of severe repercussions if it fails to comply with the union’s directive.
“The Lotha Students Union (LSU) had been continuously monitoring the whole process of the construction of Wokha- Merapani road. The LSU registers its strongest resentment against the deliberate defective construction of the construction company (MS Paneshwar & Sons) with regards to the construction of Wokha Merapani Road” stated a note from LSU chief Nzanthung K Yanthan.
The LSU pointed out that the construction company has been ‘deliberately taking undue advantage of the innocence of the people while constructing the road.’ The company, the union explained, knowing fully well that Baghty Sand could not be durable and is not fit for construction, had been using local sand. The LSU cited the instance of the construction of a retaining wall at Foothill.
“The union wonders as to how local sand is used for that purpose. (The) company is hereby reminded that using of local sand cheaply available at Bagthy cannot satisfy the needs of the road, nor it will be tolerable at all” the LUS advised MS Paneshwar & Sons.
The company is directed to destroy the retaining wall that was constructed by using local sand within five days (on or before July 2, 2007). Fresh construction should commence by using the needful and suitable materials, the LSU directed. The union cautioned of severe repercussions if the company fails to comply with the union’s directive.
While extending fullest cooperation for proper and ‘acceptable construction’ of the road, the LSU warned the company to be more cautious while implementing the project. The union also urged all sections of the society to extend full cooperation for the early completion of the project.
