Road diplomacy to thaw Assam-Nagaland relations

Kohima, September 30 (MExN): A border meeting was held at Geleky Naga Bazar on September 24 where agenda over opening a Geleky-Yonglok road for all the public and formation of border peace committee was discussed. It was observed that opening a trade road would further the relations between the Assamese and the Nagas.

In the meeting was also parliamentary secretary for Nagaland Transport & Mechanical Engineering P Dako Phom, president of Zirlla Parishad Sivasagar (ZPS) Hemo Gogoi, SDO(C) of Tamlu, Additional SP of Longleng, Border Magistrate of Nazira, Circle Inspector of Nazira, public leaders, village council chairman of Bura Namsang, Tamlu, Shemnyuching, Yonglok, Shetap, Namha, Ngetchungching, Singibil and public of Assam and Nagaland.

ZPS president Hemo Gogoi was appreciative that Parliamentary Secretary Dako Phom took the initiative to bring together the public of Assam and Nagaland for peaceful coexistence and development of the border area peoples.

Dako Phom appealed to the people of Assam and Nagaland to maintain peace and harmony. He pointed to the age-old relationship between the Ahom and the Nagas since time immemorial. He said that if Geleky Naga Bazar is reopened then Geleky will develop into a big town like any other town. Phom said the road should be opened and peace and harmony should be maintained at all costs.

The meeting decided on opening a Geleky-Yonglok road, formation of a Border Peace Committee comprising of 21 members and opening the Singibil Naga Bazar.
