Yimchungrü Akheru Arihako ask govt to clarify on Aghunato-Shamator road project
Dimapur, June 20 (MExN): A 20-kilometer road between Aghunato and Shamator worth more than Rs. 1597 lakhs sanctioned by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) in 2009 remains half-done and with poor materials. More interestingly, a completion report about the work has been issued while funds have already been drawn when the road wasn’t even paved with bitumen except for gravel and soil.
A Yimchunger organization, the Yimchungrü Akheru Arihako (YAA) issued an ultimatum to the Chief Engineer of PWD (R&B) to immediately direct the firm or the contractors to resume the work within 15 days from the date of submission of this statement.
The YAA has demanded stern action against the department officials or whoever are found involved in manipulation by not adhering to the specifications for the road stipulated by the ministry for the Rs. 1597.30 lakhs road. The organization stated that the ministry had sanctioned the money for 20 kilometers. The construction firm called MB Panesars & Sons Pvt Ltd only soiled and “metalled” the road but not black-topping it and with the approved grade. Bitumen of 80/100 grade was to be used for the road, the YAA said.
The YAA has demanded clarification from the department whether the PWD had even undertaken verification of the road after its “completion”; why the department issued work order only for 15 kilometers when DoNER had approved work for 20 kms of road. Further, the YAA demanded the reasons why the report of completion was issued and the funds drawn when the work wasn’t even complete or paved according to guidelines of the ministry’s work order. If the authorities don’t act within the given time, the YAA said, the organization would take its own ‘course of action.’
