Around 21 families have been affected following a severe road sinking at D. Block, Kohima which damaged many buildings. This road is the lifeline of the state capital Kohima.
The affected buildings and commercial establishments around the sinking area are being dismantled by the residents and the tenants are left with no option but to look for alternative arrangement for their stay.
It is learnt that the D. Block Panchayat was making necessary alternative arrangement for tenants at the panchayat hall but the space is insufficient to accommodate all. A resident of the colony said the sinking left only 7 feet of this busy road and movement of heavy vehicles along with route seems not advisable now.
Meanwhile, taking immediate action the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) evacuated the residents of the affected area. Sub- Divisional Officer (Civil) Sadar, Kohima, Wennyie Konyak in a press release stated that a firsthand survey of the area was promptly done by officials from the DDMA and the NSDMA. It has been found that 21 families have been affected, while three buildings have been partially destroyed, developing huge cracks even as the survey was being carried out.
In this regard the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has sanctioned immediate cash relief for the affected families through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). The DDMA in collaboration with the NSDMA is doing all possible to ensure the safety of the affected families.
