Road To Nowhere

A pond-like water body formed by rainwater accumulation near a residential area in Dimapur following a brief spell of rain on April 8. Such events are a recurring sight that exposes the lack of proper drainage infrastructure, haphazard town planning and poor road construction plaguing the city’s colonies and residential areas. Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland, has long battled deteriorating road conditions, with most interior colony roads remaining poorly constructed, narrow and devoid of adequate drainage systems. Even a brief shower is enough to submerge stretches of road, turning them into waterlogged stretches that disrupt daily life and pose risks to commuters and residents alike. Government department and authorities have faced persistent criticism for the absence of a comprehensive drainage network and the failure to maintain and upgrade roads in residential localities, leaving citizens to bear the brunt of every monsoon season.
