Roko Angami to lead U-21 Nagaland team at NE international tournament

Nagaland Football Coaches Association (NFCA) president Roko Angami will be leading U-21 Nagaland football team at the forthcoming U-21 North East International Tournament to be held from February 19 to 28 at Guwahati.


Roko Angami, a former international football player, has been extending rigorous coaching to U-21 Nagaland team at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima for the past two weeks together.


As the head coach of U-21 Nagaland team, he will be assisted by senior player Khwetelhi Thopi and Khrielievio Yhor as manager.


The team will be heading for Guwahati this week.


All the eight northeastern states including team from Bhutan/Nepal and Bangladesh will take part in the tournament.

2 Naga lads on trail at Gokulam Kerala FC

Under the initiative of Roko Angami, two budding footballers from Nagaland will be appearing for trial at Gokulam Kerala FC on trial by this month.


They include Inonito G. Ghukhvi (22) of Ghukhuyi village and Tove H. Zhimomi (22) of Xuivi village.


Inonito had already undergone football coaching at Deutsch Fussball Internat, Germany for two years (2016-18) and also, Tove at MV8 Academy, Spain during 2016-18.


Roko lauds Rio for promotion of sports

Talking to media persons, Roko Angami maintained that the installation of Astro Turf Football Pitch at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima has boosted the morale of the sportspersons in Nagaland.


One of the dreams of the players have been fulfilled with the installation of Astro Turf Pitch, he said and lauded chief minister Neiphiu Rio for connecting such facility to the sportspersons of the state.


Roko said that Rio was very supportive to Naga youth in many areas, adding that he has initiated many things towards the promotion and augmentation of sports activities in Nagaland.


Roko recalled that that under his (Rio) chief ministership, Dr. T Ao Football Trophy, Dr. T. Ao Award, Dr. T. Ao Football Academy among the others got through.
