Role of NSCN (I-M) in land dispute invites shock from tribal body

DIMAPUR, JUNE 20 (MExN): The Poumai Naga Union has taken into serious consideration the attack on Keize village on May 23 last when property was also destroyed by Maram Khullen villagers, as according to newspaper reports.

“The Poumai Naga Union is also shocked to have learnt the revelation of the attack where some of the NSCN (IM) personnel were also among the attackers on the Keize village, a small village of Poumai.”

“The involvement of the GPRN in the barbaric and shameful act on the Keize village is quite contrary to one of the six points of ‘National Standing Azhas’ issued by the NSCN(IM) in a joint council meeting on the ‘mob-uprising and shoot at sight’ carried in the recent various local papers that runs as  ‘the Council resolved to immediately recall any NSCN member, with or without the influence of alcoholic/psychotropic substances,  disturbing social order and safe guarding law and order causing loss of lives, injuries or damage of f properties t the headquarters concerned and be placed under suspension for thorough investigating and trials for justice,’” the Poumai Union today stated.

It termed as ironical as ironical the alleged role taken by the NSCN (IM) in the attack by kidnapping seven settlers at Bukho, the disputed area, before the attack and illegally keeping them in confinement at Ramlung, a nearby village, “till the criminal act was done, as revealed by the Chairman of the Thingba Khullen. It’s also reported that the NSCN (IM) were the first ones to arrive before the attack, and the last ones to leave the spot after the act.”

This exposition of the GPRN’s role in abetting the communal riot between the two villages on land dispute, according to the tribal body, “is totally against the moral principles of the NSCN (IM) who have been correcting the social wrongs and fighting for the rights of Nagas for many years. The act itself is nothing but a shameful slap on the face of those who initiate the vision of Unity & Peace Reconciliation among the Nagas brethren.”

The union has, therefore, voiced its demand for the GPRN to carry out transparent investigation into the involvement of the NSCN (IM) cadres in the attack, “and punish those culprits at the earliest to restore public confidence and trust on them.”

“The NSCN (IM) also ought to seriously ponder upon the reasons behind the altercation between the Katomai village and Kabung Karong on land dispute a week ago, that may further create communal feelings among the concern communities. Apparently, the intentional roll back of the earlier Civil and various Court Verdicts by the GPRN very recently, has flared up the tension between the villages on the issue which had already been solved a couple of decades ago.”
