‘Role of women in peace building’

Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): International Woman's Day was observed in Nuiland with the ‘Role of women in peace building.’ The programme was organised in collaboration with Nuiland Sumi Totimi Hoho, Peace Channel Dimapur and civil servants from the administration.


During the programme, Wacy Kath SDO (Civil) encouraged the crowd to break all boundaries in the society by equal living without any differences. He urged women to fight for social injustices in individual as well as social perspectives. Kath further encouraged all individuals that the days have changed “if you take all things positively for better future. “


Dr Toli Kiba Assistant Professor NEISSR, in her keynote address traced back to 1908 when 15000 women marched through New York City demanding their voting rights, stated a press release from Peace Channel Media Cell Arhomo C Ngullie.


She opined the conditions of women in the Naga society where the Nagas comparatively enjoyed equal status with men in all social strata, where the Naga Mother’s Association played a major role in enriching the standard of life. 


President Sumi Totimi Hoho, Nuiland in her speech viewed the emancipation of women has drastically improved.


Resource person Garrol Lotha talked about the role of women in peace building, on the topic “think equal, build smart, Innovative for change.” As a bridge towards conflict, it is very important to follow the principle of peace, love, humility, honesty, courage, discipline and empathy which is the beginning towards individual change to social transformation, stressed Garrol. It is challenging to be an agent of peace building if one donot have that positive attitude to be a better person, she added.


The programme was invoked by Dr Fr Matthew Thiunimpral, Parish Priest and Principal of St Joseph School Nuiland and Chumdemo Odyuo, Project Coordinator Peace Channel chaired the session.
