Rongmei bodies denounce ZUF

Tamenglong, June 12 (MExN): Frontal Rongmei bodies have denounced the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) for meddling in the affairs of the Rongmei Students and Youth and intimidating the Rongmei Students’ Organizing Committee in April, 2016.   Alleging that the Organizing Committee was made to sign an “uncommon agreement” by the ZUF “under threat at gun point”, the frontal bodies demanded the “immediate withdrawal” of the forceful agreement.

A decision to this regard was taken during the official swearing-in of the Central Executives of the Rongmei Naga Students Organization (RNSO) and Rongmei Naga Youth Organization (RNYO). The swearing-in was administered by Namgai Gonmei, President, Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (RNPO), in the presence of Presidents Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur (RNCM), Rongmei Council Nagaland (RCN) and heads of Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA) on June 10 at Tamenglong District HQ.   According to a press release from the RNYO, the meeting of the frontal Rongmei bodies, expressing strong displeasure, resolved that the “forceful agreement made to sign under duress and suppressive threats” must be immediately withdrawn and an apology be issued within 15 days time w.e.f. June 10, 2016. “Failing to do so shall invite mass action against the responsible organization,” it warned.   Denouncing the ZUF for “willfully” committing acts of unlawful and anti-social activities against the students’ community, the press release stated that it is the voice and decision of the Rongmei People carried by the apex RNPO to protect and safeguard the life of every Rongmei person. “Therefore, if one Rongmei is affected or being threatened by any armed force, it is that the whole Rongmei People is affected and challenged,” it cautioned.   In this regard, the RNYO has informed all concerned Rongmei to take note of the matter “with all seriousness”. On the occasion, State level Rongmei Youth and Students’ organizations were also formed, the release informed.
