New Delhi/Bangalore, March 31 (MExN): The Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (RCPD) or Rongmei Students' Organization Delhi has welcomed the decision of the NSCN (IM)’s Tatar Hoho to enlist Rongmei as one of the tribes of the Nagas.
“Till this latest amendment the Rongmei, the Liangmai and the Zeme have been represented by Zeliangrong organizations in social & tribal forums including the various Naga forums. With this amendment the competent body of the Rongmeis will now represent the Rongmei people in every Naga forum. GPRN has decided the matter as per the wish of the Rongmei people to recognize them separately and the Rongmei people are grateful to the GPRN leadership for redressing the issue,” stated a press release from RCPD president, K. Gaisinlung and general secretary, Huaineiguang Gangmei.
Maintaining that Rongmei as a tribe has every right to be recognized, to demand and to assert their identities and rights, it affirmed that the aspirations of the Rongmei people can no longer be suppressed. The union further stated that the Rongmei people fully support the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talk and pray for early solution.
Meanwhile, the Rongmei Welfare Organization Bangalore (RWOB) in its General Body Meeting held recently in Bangalore also expressed gratitude to NSCN (IM) and welcomed its decision “for separately recognizing the distinct tribe identities of the Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei people.”
A press statement from RWOB president, Agungongpou and general secretary, Dimthaorei Kamei asserted, “This has brought the much needed clarity on the long standing confusion regarding the cognate organizational nomenclature of Zeliangrong in contrast with the unique tribe identities. We respect and also fully endorse this decision taken by the Tatar Hoho.”
The Rongmei community in Bangalore extends our best wishes and prayers for a speedy and acceptable solution in the ongoing lndo-Naga political talk, it added.
