A three-day conference of the 26th Rotary Club 3240 on the theme “Hornbill” got underway here at Urban Haat with advisor to the chief minister on Urban Development, SI Jamir, gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest on Friday.
The chief guest in his address congratulated the Rotary Family on the occasion and said that Rotary Club since its inception has been doing commendable works and proving its existence to be “fruitful.”
Noting the handful of Nagas in the Rotary Club, Jamir suggested that the Club should rope in more Nagas into the Club which, he said, would help bring positive changes in the society.
Jamir also voiced his concern on the present “communal disunity” rearing its “ugly face” in the country and appealed the Rotarians to give a serious thought on the issue.
He said once the communal harmony is disturbed, it would ultimately lead to disintegration of the country and disunity among all classes and groups of people.
Jamir said the biggest challenge of India, also known as the home of the world’s religions, is to eradicate communal elements who are posing a grave threat to the integrity of the nation.
Rotarians from other states also addressed the inaugural programme of the Rotary Club conference, which is being hosted for the first time in Nagaland.
Rotarian Mohan Palesha in his key note address spoke on “Social sensitivity and Rotary.”
The inaugural programme was followed by a cultural programme highlighting various activities of the club and interactions among the Rotarians from various parts of the country.
